WASHING GUIDE FOR OUR DIAPERS:
- 40°C wash recommended (60°C max)
- No bleach, Marseille’s soap, fabric softeners, whiteners, vinegar, or caustic products
- Line dry in shade for covers
- If washed with hook and loop or Velcro items, isolate them in a wet bag in the washing machine
Prewashing new diapers
Due to the diapers being handled in the production cycle, for hygienic reasons, wash the diaper before use.
Prewashing the inserts also increase their capacity and speed of absorption because it removes the natural oils existent in the fibers. Our hemp-lyocell inserts don’t need multiple preparations. They absorb well right after the first wash.
Stretch:
Our inserts shrink initially and then maintain their shape. They have been sized with this in mind. Once washed and before drying, it is vital to stretch all inserts to maximum shape by pulling.
Wash routine we recommend:
1. Hand-rinse after each use: Shake/scrape/rinse solid waste off inserts into the toilet and rinse the diaper. Squeeze water out well, and place in the dry-pail or wet bag until machine wash day.
2. Wash in a long cycle every 2-3 days:
Prerinse the diapers on a sort cycle before mixing with laundry then 2-3 Hours main cycle to 40-60 degrees. Use a recommended dosage of detergent for your load size. Double dosage for recommended eco-detergents.
4. Drying:
Line dry in direct sunlight. excluding diaper shells, shade dries only. Do not tumble-dry shells or place them in direct sunlight as this can cause damage long term. Before drying, stretch all wet inserts to maximum shape to reduce shrinkage.
If your nappies are still smelling after washing, you will need to revise your washing routine as ammonia may be building up in your inserts as the washing cycles/detergent are not thoroughly cleaned.
For this, we recommend soaking the diapers in sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate for a few hours in warm water with a little detergent and then loading them into the washing machine on a long cycle. This method does wonders in removing any buildup and odors trapped between the layers and it should only be used occasionally when you notice possible buildup.
