Make your cloth diapers more sustainable

Make your cloth diapers more sustainable

Congratulations on making the switch to cloth diapers! By choosing cloth, you're already taking a big step towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly diapering option. However, there are still ways to further reduce the impact of cloth diapering on the environment. In this article, we will provide tips on how to make cloth diapering even more sustainable. From saving water and energy to proper storage and repurposing, these tips will help you reduce your environmental impact while still enjoying the benefits of cloth diapering. So let's dive in and explore these tips!

Tip 1 : Save water and energy

Wash only on a full load in a modern washing machine and purchase an energy-efficient washing machine when replacing appliences.

Line dry your diapers when possible vs using a dryer to save on energy usage. Sunshine does wonders.

Tip 2: Laundry way

Use eco plant based detergents over synthetic detergents. Natural products have lower fossil resource depletion.

While cold water would be best for the environment, diapers must be washed between 40-60 degrees for hygenic reasons.

Tip 3: Diaper choice

Customise your fit and absorbency to prevent leaks which will reduce frequent bedding and clothes washing . Buy the correct amount. We recommend 30 diapers for full time for one child. Having fewer diapers will mean more frequent washing so more power and water use and more wear and tear on the diapers.

Tip 4 : Faster path to potty trained

Encourage toilet training to reduce the years spent laundering

Tip 5: Repurpose or Donate

When your child outgrows their cloth diapers, consider reselling them, donating them or repourpose them for other uses such as cleaning rags and if they are in a bad condition recycle. This helps to reduce waste and give others access to sustainable diapering options.

Tip 6: Cloth Wipes

Using cloth wipes instead of disposable wipes can further reduce your waste amount.

Tip 7: Support Sustainable Brands

When purchasing cloth diapers, look for brands that prioritize sustainability in their production process and use eco-friendly materials. Supporting these brands helps to promote sustainable practices in the diapering industry.

Tip 8: Education

Share your knowledge and experience with others to encourage them to make the switch to cloth diapers. Spread awareness about the environmental and cost benefits of cloth diapering, and offer support and guidance to those who are interested in making the switch.

Share these with your cloth diaper community and let’s make better habits together!
